Jeg har det problem, at min stationære computer en gang imellem nægter at starte op.- og det har været et problem siden 10.04.
Findes der programmer og metoder til at se hvornår en computer stopper med respons - altså et program der realtime logger opstarten og gemmer det i filer?
og hvordan
PS - problemerne starter efter at jeg har installeret driveren til NVIDIA kortet - og alle de løsninger jeg har prøvet har ikke haft ønskede effekt

Programmet bootchart er nok en god mulighed. Jeg skal lige tjekke hvor loggen ender henne (jeg har ikke brugt det i lang tid nu).

Får det skrevet data til harddisken løbende? Problemet er jo at maskinen dør og skal genstartes.

Har du kigget i syslog og med dmesg?
Der er ingen garanti for at de når at skrive noget til log-filerne, men man ved aldrig.

syslog ligger i /var/log/ og kan kun ses af root, så efter en opstart hvor den låser, så er det bare
Men den er ret lang og går nogen gange 2 dage tilbage, så det kan godt tage lidt tid at kigge på den. Det værste er selvfølgelig hvis man læser den igennem, og der ikke står noget der kan bruges...
dmesg minder lidt om syslog, men er mere rettet imod boot-meddelelser. Personligt tror jeg aldrig den har registreret det jeg har ledt efter, men det er et forsøg værd. Du skriver bare dmesg i en terminal, så printer den meddelerne ud, og de kan så evt. dirigeres til en fil med
eller tilsvarende for lettere læsning.
Håber det hjælper, ellers kommer du til at spilde en del tid på ligegyldige logs

Hvis maskinen har RS232 kan man få kernen til at skrive til RS232 porten.
Det er ikke det samme som en seriel port ( /dev/ttyS ) - langt fra.
Det hedder en console og er en meget simpel kerne-ting til at få informationer fra kernen meget tidligt i opstarten hvor alt andet endnu slet ikke virker - ikke engang filsystemer, netværk etc.
Det betyder at får du konfigureret sådan en console skal du køre et program som GtkTerm, eller minicom fra en anden computer + elektrisk forbinde de 2 maskiner via RS232 - for at fange output fra din stationære.

Det her lyder måske dumt, men er der ikke mere end det?
Hvis du kigger på tiden helt ude til venstre, så går der kun 31 sekunder på den log, og det hele er koncentreret omkring 1 opstart. Hvis sysloggen skulle have noget nyttigt, så vil det være en af de sidste linier inden computeren går ned. Måske den er blevet roteret, og hedder syslog.1 nu?
Hvis det er tilfældet, så prøv og kig på de sidste linier af den, og hvis ikke du finder noget spændene, så prøv og post den her. Måske ikke det hele til at starte med, bare de sidste 100 linier eller sådan noget.

Jeg kan ikke rigtig finde noget interessant i den log.
Jeg tror vi bør gå ned under det digitale niveau først, dvs. du skal sikre dig at din strømforsyninger virker korrekt.
Årsagen er at strømmen skal være af meget høj kvalitet, ellers fejler digitalelektronik.
Ja der er faktisk altid mere end 1 strømforsyning til en computer:
Du skal sikre dig at alle kabler fra og til strømforsyningerne sidder helt fast. Kig om der er problemer med elektrolytkondensatorer.
Elektrolytkondensatorere er ekstremt vigtige i en strømforsyning, da de er et lager af strøm.
Hen over tid bliver sådan en elektrolytkondensator dårligere, og det kan godt være en god ide at skifte dem ud.
Elektronik-slang der svarer til "elektrolytkondensator" er "lyt".

Er der stik der er løse i det kan du prøve at indsætte lidt aluminiumfolie fra køkkenet rundt om et stik, og så sætte stikket i den konnektor (husk at undgå kortslutninger - ingen flagrende stykker aluminumsfolie med spænding på!)

Ja der er faktisk altid mere end 1 strømforsyning til en computer:
- der er den der modtager netstrøm, konvertering til 5 volt og 12 volt, ved laptops kan det i stedet være en højere spænding, f.eks. 20 volt
- der er dem der er på bundkortet, konvertering fra 12 volt/5 volt til 3,3 volt, og 1,8 volt

Det sjove er, at der er foretaget to stk. opstart d. 4 maj - og som i også bekræftiger.
Men som jeg også frygtede var der ikke ingen data for første opstart - den hvor computeren staller.
Jeg har ALDRIG oplevet fejlen under opstart af Windows XP - kun under Linux/Ubuntu. Det er dog blevet færre gange med 12.04 - og sjældent mere end en enkelt genstart. Og det sker ikke kun ved en "koldstart".
Maskinen er klippestabil ligegyldigt hvad jeg udsætter den for - også selvom den har kørt hardcore 3D programmer i lang tid. SÅ jeg tvivler på at det strømkilden
Og fejlene sker først efter at jeg har aktiveret NVIDIA driveren.
Fejlen er til at leve med, da den er blevet sjældnere, men den er ret irriterende

En bug i nvidea driveren kan crashe kernen uden advarsler af nogen art, så et crash uden videre i det tilfælde giver god mening, da en kerne device driver har uhindret adgang til al hukommelse og alle ressourcer i hele computeren - der er med andre ord slet ingen begrænsninger overhovedet for kernekode.
Løsningen er altså at bare ikke skal bruge din buggy nvidea driver, eller du skal installere en nyere udgave af nvidia driveren uden den fejl der får kernen til at crashe.

Hvis ikke du har brug for accelereret grafik, så kan du prøve med OO-driveren nouveau. Eller, hvis det er den du bruger, så prøv med NVidias bin-installer til Linux.
