Hej med jer

Efter opgradering til 10.04 er min maskine blevet meget langsom i opstarten.

Det tager flere minutter. Hvilket det ikke gjorde før.

Og til tider, ser det ud som om at den " Går i knæ " ved start af nyt program, typisk Evolution og Firefox, skærmen får et gråligt udseende og så efter ca. 1 minut kommer den efter at få åbnet det som, jeg har bedt om.

Er der en simpel løsning på dette ????

Skærmen bliver grå, når programmet ikke svarer GNOME desktoppen.
Det skyldes ofte en kombination af en for lille hastighed på mikroprocessoren, og/eller for lidt RAM.

Der er to løsninger, som du også kan kombinere:
Kør en Linux distribution der ikke kræver så meget af hardwaren, og/eller opgrader hardwaren. Ofte giver mere RAM i Linux systemer en dramatisk bedre ydelse.

Du kan køre Lubuntu - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu, eller Fedora LXDE-udgaven - http://spins.fedoraproject.org/lxde/. Du kan også forsøge dig med XUbuntu, som bruger XFCE desktoppen, men der er nogen der har rapporteret at XUbuntu er langsommere end Ubuntu.

Jeg kører med 4Gb ram, det burde da være nok.

Og 896Mb ram på grafikkortet, så det skulle vel også være stort nok.

Problemerne er først kommet efter opgradering til 10.04

Nej du burde have RAM til både gården og til gaden.

Der foregår noget mystisk. Det er desværre fuldkommen umuligt at gætte hvad det kan være. Men du kan begynde med at lide efter fejl i dine log-filer.

Og start helt fra scratch. Hvis du har noget ekstern hardware sat til, så pil det hele fra. Hvis det hjælper slutter du det til en af gangen, og ser hvornår det begynder at gå skævt (prøv også at boote uden ekstern hardware - dog med tastatur og mus).

Du kan overvåge hvad der bruger processor-kraft eller RAM med system-administration-systemovervågning.

Du skal lægge mærke til om det er bestemte programmer der "bliver grå". Når du siger "typisk" evolution og firefox, betyder det så at hvis du ikke åbner evolution eller firefox, så sker det ALDRIG, eller er det måske alle programmer der "skal på nettet", du ved - analysere...

Du kan, som nævnt, kikke i dine log-filer. Det nemmeste sted at danne sig et overblik er i system-administration-logfilsfremviser. Her kan du søge på f.eks. error (CTRL+F - error). Men der kan stå meget andet end error, men det er svært at gætte på når jeg ikke har mere info. De logfiler du kikker i med logfilsfremviseren, ligger i øvrigt de fleste af dem i mappen /var/log/

I din hjemmemappe er der en skjult fil (CTRL+H) for at se, der hedder .xsession-errors. Den kan også være af interesse.

Endelig kan du også prøve at installere bootchart

Kode: Vælg alt

sudo aptitude bootchart
Derefter kan du efter et boot se en grafisk oversigt over, hvad der tog tid under boot. Dem finder du i mappen /var/log/bootchart.

Du skal altså ud i god gammeldags troubleshooting, og hvis du finder noget mistænkeligt, så fortæl detaljeret om det her.

Med de nye oplysninger du leverer vil jeg tro at der er introduceret et concurrency problem i 10.4.

Mit gæt er at der for en tid opstår en livelock. Betingelserne for live lock forsvinder så på et tidspunkt, når en/flere tidligere låst(e) ressource(r) bliver frigjort.

Du kan som alm. bruger normalt ikke gøre meget ved den slags - ud over at rapportere fejlen i detaljer.

Som zob synes jeg også at dine logfiler er interessante. De giver muligvis en en ide om hvor problemet er.

Jeg skriver muligvis herover fordi at det er min erfaring at concurrency problemer er noget af det mest nasty du kan komme i nærheden af, når vi snakker om problemer med computere. Et concurrency problem kan nemt opstår et sted, og symptomet et helt andet sted.

Det er også det der er svært ved fejlfinding når man ikke ved mere om hvad, hvornår og for hvilke programmer det sker.

Du kan jo starte med at kikke i syslog og kern.log.

Hvis du gerne vil se, hvad der sker under boot kan du kikke i dmesg.

Men ja, jeg aner jo heller ikke hvad der foregår på din maskine, så jeg kan desværre ikke gøre det mere præcist.

Fik du nogensinde prøvet det her:
Hvis du har noget ekstern hardware sat til, så pil det hele fra. Hvis det hjælper slutter du det til en af gangen, og ser hvornår det begynder at gå skævt (prøv også at boote uden ekstern hardware - dog med tastatur og mus).

Har ikke andet sat til end tastetur og mus samt skærm.

Når jeg lukke ned og starter op, kommer der nogle Farvede bjælker i klaser på skærmen ??

Flest når jeg lukker ned, som om der skulle stå noget skrift. Når jeg starter op er det som regel kun en linje. Kan det være grafikkortet som er skyld i misæren ??

Har du mulighed for at vælge mellem forskellige kerner under opstart? Hvis ja, prøv at vælge en anden. Sker det stadig?

Hvis nej, prøv at installere en ældre kerne.

Den eneste der umiddelbart kan installeres fra repos fra en ældre generation er linux-image-2.6.31-10-rt, som er en real-time kernel. Den har sikkert andre problemer men til testformål kunne den måske godt bruge.

Jeg lægger mærke til:

Altså fra ext3 filsystemet melder alt klar til kernen melder at den har tilføjet ca 10,14 GB swap går der lidt over 50,3 sekunder.

Mystisk! Med 4 GB RAM i din Linux box kan du evt prøve følgende i Terminal (fra Programmer > Tilbehør menuen):

Det du skal nu er at ændre i fstab, så du ikke bruger swap, som det tilsyneladende ikke går for godt med under opstart.

(Sikkerheds)Kopier først /etc/fstab filen (Dette trin må kun udføres 1 gang!):

jeg har nu prøvet at installere den kerne, men får ikke mulighed for at vælge noget.

jeg har også prøvet at lave den Backup som Lars foreslog, men fik dette svar
