Canonical har lavet en opdatering af Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
Opdateringen omfatter kun nyere pakker, bug fixes og den slags siden Ubuntu 14.04.1 opdateringen blev udgivet.

Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS released

The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
(Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products,
as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support.

We have expanded our hardware enablement offering since 12.04, and with
14.04.2, this point release contains an updated kernel and X stack for
new installations to support new hardware across all our supported
architectures, not just x86.

As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated
installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to
be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and
corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining
stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Kubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Edubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Xubuntu 14.04.2 LTS,
Mythbuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2 LTS, Lubuntu 14.04.2 LTS,
Ubuntu Kylin 14.04.2 LTS, and Ubuntu Studio 14.04.2 LTS are also now

Maintenance updates will be provided for 5 years for Ubuntu Desktop,
Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Kylin, Edubuntu, and
Kubuntu. All the remaining flavours will be supported for 3 years.

Jeg har læst lidt rundt på nettet, og jeg har opdateret.
og jeg kører nu 14.04.02 men får jeg ikke også den nye 3.16 kerne?

Min er stadig 13.3 min basis install er 14.04.01

Der er ikke ret meget operativsystem over en Linux distro uden en kerne

Hvis du opgradere fortsætter du på samme kerne. Hvis du vil have samme kerne som hvis du lavede en ny installation skal du installere følgende pakker:
linux-generic-lts-utopic
xserver-xorg-lts-utopic
libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic
libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic

Bemærk at disse kun har support i samme periode som ikke-LTS udgaver og du der for skal sørge for at opgradere til næste udgave der efter.

Jo, men forskellen her er at 14.04.2 kommer med 3.16 kernen hvor 14.04.0 og 14.04.1 hade 3.13 kernen.

Bemærk at disse kun har support i samme periode som ikke-LTS udgaver og du der for skal sørge for at opgradere til næste udgave der efter.

I så tilfælde må der da være en konfiguration i 14.04.2 LTS som man kan eftergøre, så den automatisk går videre til vivid når den til kommer, for jeg går ikke ud fra at supportperioden på 14.04.2 følger utopic.
